Blended Learning & Online Courses
According to the Michigan Department of Education, “blended learning” means a hybrid instructional delivery model where pupils are provided content, instruction, and assessment, in part at a supervised educational facility away from home where the pupil and a teacher with a valid Michigan teaching certificate are the same physical location and in part through internet-connected learning environments with some degree of pupil control; over time, location, and pace of instruction.
Academy for Business and Technology High School has created its Blended Learning coursework as a balanced mix of traditional face to face instructional activities with appropriately designed on-line experiences. This learning occurs during school time and also allows students and teachers to use a format to expand and reinforce classroom-based instructional activities outside the classroom and normal day, including weekends and nights. The coursework is aligned with the Common Core State Curriculum through Study Island and teacher individualized student plans.
The goal of the blended learning and online courses is to help students explore and master core subjects so the students can meet all of their high school requirements.
Students can log-in anytime from home or during class time to complete necessary course work. All assessments must be taken during class-time and students must meet the “in-seat” attendance requirements. Class time is scheduled daily on the ABTHS master schedule.
